Avi Aiken Fernandez is an accomplished attorney, legal scholar, and political scientist who explores the convergence of emerging technology, law, and leadership. Her current research focuses on the critical issues of anticipatory governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how judicial institutions can be strengthened to better serve the public interest and maintain trust in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Driven by a commitment to creating a brighter future through law and leadership, Ms. Fernandez draws upon a robust background in constitutional law, international human rights, and criminal prosecution. Her legal experience in federal courts provides her with a crucial lens for navigating complex policy challenges, such as the rise of generative AI and its legal and ethical implications.
Avi earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where she was a Rubin Public Interest Law Honor Society Fellow, a recipient of the prestigious Conwell Scholarship, and held a Certificate in Trial Advocacy & Litigation. She completed her undergraduate studies at Spelman College, graduating with honors from the Political Science department. She currently serves as a Leadership Coach at the City College of New York and works with aspiring attorneys as a Bar Examination Coach at the State Bar of New Mexico. She is licensed to practice in New Mexico, the U.S. District Court of New Mexico, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
