New York Immigration Court
Hon. Raisa Cohen (Ret.) is a former United States Immigration Judge who served on the bench at the New York Immigration Court (26 Federal Plaza) after her appointment in 2016. In that role, she presided over removal proceedings, bond hearings, and complex cases involving admissibility, credibility, and humanitarian relief.
Prior to her judicial appointment, she served as an Assistant Chief Counsel with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS/ICE) in New York, where she litigated removal cases on behalf of the government. She began her legal career in private practice and has returned to private practice following her judicial service.
Ms. Cohen is the founder of Cohen Immigration Law Group, P.C., where she represents individuals in complex immigration matters, including asylum, removal defense, waivers, and adjustment of status. She also advises attorneys in criminal and civil litigation where immigration issues intersect with case strategy.
She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and participates in a national roundtable of former immigration judges. She is a frequent CLE speaker and has recently presented for the American Bar Association (ABA) and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA).
